Services Not Covered by Medicare

Medicare provides coverage for a wide range of healthcare services, but there are some services and items that are not covered by Medicare. The following is a list of services and items that are generally not covered by Medicare:

  1. Long-term care: Medicare does not cover long-term care, which includes care in a nursing home or assisted living facility.

  2. Dental care: Routine dental care, such as cleanings, fillings, and extractions, are generally not covered by Medicare.

  3. Hearing aids: Medicare does not cover the cost of hearing aids or exams to fit hearing aids.

  4. Vision care: Routine eye exams and eyeglasses are generally not covered by Medicare, with some exceptions for specific medical conditions.

  5. Cosmetic surgery: Medicare does not cover cosmetic surgery, which is performed solely to improve appearance.

  6. Acupuncture: Medicare does not cover acupuncture, except for specific conditions such as chronic low back pain.

  7. Prescription drugs: While Medicare does cover some prescription drugs, there are certain medications that are not covered, such as over-the-counter drugs and drugs for cosmetic purposes.

  8. Medical care received outside the U.S.: Medicare generally does not cover medical care received outside of the United States.

It's important to note that while these services and items are not covered by Medicare, there may be exceptions or specific circumstances under which they may be covered. It's always best to check with your healthcare provider and/or Medicare to determine your specific coverage and any potential costs you may be responsible for.
